dc.description.abstract	Tonnoma is the protagonist of her own story of development. 26 years old, illiterate, and married to a man 15 years her senior, Tonnoma lives in a rural area of Burkina Faso. Before finding employment with the Youth Employment and Skills Development Project, she performed household chores and depended on her husband’s irregular income to meet the family’s needs. His income was not always sufficient, and they lost their fourth child to poverty. Tonnoma’s Story: Women’s Work and Empowerment in Burkina Faso is based on actual events and the experiences of numerous women. It draws directly from the results of qualitative research on the factors impeding or promoting women’s ability to work in Burkina Faso. It offers readers a glimpse into the daily lives of women who live in a rural environment and want to work. This book shows us that emotional relationships matter, that the social and cultural landscape we are born into matters, and that if we want to conduct effective development, we have to listen carefully to the beneficiaries. How do they perceive their circumstances? What influences their behaviors? What helps or hinders women’s access to employment—in their view? This book encourages readers to reflect on how to conduct more beneficiary-centered and participatory international development that better responds to realities on the ground.	en
dc.description.abstract	Tonnoma est la protagoniste de cette histoire de développement personnel. Âgée de 26 ans, analphabète et mariée à un homme qui a 15 ans de plus qu’elle, Tonnoma vit dans une région rurale du Burkina Faso. Avant de trouver un emploi avec le projet Emplois des jeunes et développement des compétences, elle s’occupait des tâches ménagères et dépendait des revenus de irréguliers son mari pour subvenir aux besoins de sa famille. Ses revenus n’étaient pas toujours suffisants et ils ont perdu leur quatrième enfant à cause de leur pauvreté. L’histoire de Tonnoma : Travail et emploi des femmes au Burkina Faso est un récit basé sur des faits réels et sur l’expérience de nombreuses femmes. Il s’inspire directement des résultats de recherches qualitatives sur les facteurs qui empêchent ou favorisent le travail des femmes au Burkina Faso. Il offre au lecteur un aperçu de la vie quotidienne des femmes qui vivent en milieu rural et veulent travailler. Cet ouvrage nous montre que les liens affectifs comptent, tout comme le milieu social et culturel dans lequel nous sommes nés, et que si nous voulons promouvoir un véritable développement, nous devons écouter attentivement les bénéficiaires. Comment perçoivent-elles leur situation ? Qu’est-ce qui influence leur comportement ? Quels sont les facteurs qui facilitent ou entravent l’accès des femmes à un emploi — d’après elles ? Ce livre invite le lecteur à réfléchir aux moyens de promouvoir un développement international plus axé sur le bénéficiaire, plus participatif et mieux adapté aux réalités locales.	fr
