Fishery stocks are declining all over the world, threatening not only the livelihoods of fisheries households and communities, but also food and nutrition security of a broader society. However, many countries face challenges in reforming fisheries policies and implementing fisheries management measures which tend to incur socioeconomic costs to fisheries actors in the short to medium term. Given its mission in managing risks, protecting people from poverty and shocks as well as promoting better opportunities, Social Protection and Jobs (SPJ) interventions have untapped potential in facilitating these difficult reforms and regulations in the fisheries sector. Through intersectoral efforts, the “Blue Social Protection” series present on how countries can explore a more integrated approach to SPJ and fisheries for a sustainable future for people, fish, and food and nutrition security.en
