This report aims to narrow the knowledge gap on informal employment in Malaysia, with the ultimate objective of suggesting policy recommendations to strengthen the protection and productivity of informally employed workers. Using a working definition of informal employment based on coverage by a pension, retirement savings, or employment injury insurance (see Section 2.6), this study analyzes the scale and trend of informal employment, the correlates of informal employment, the employment characteristics, and income of informally employed workers. Moreover, the study also analyzes the vulnerabilities associated with informal employment, the willingness to pay for social insurance, and the valuation of attributes of work by informally employed workers, based on data thatwas collected throughout the duration of the study.en
