dc.description.abstractThe Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is estimated to have grown at a modest rate of 1.9 percent in 2024 and is expected to grow moderately at 2.6 percent in 2025. This is against a backdrop of increased global uncertainty, particularly in trade policy. The region is far from the frontier in standards of living, largely due to low productivity. This issue of the MENA Economic Update sheds light on a critical engine of productivity growth: the private sector. Businesses create jobs, boost livelihoods, and serve as a bastion of innovation in the economy. The MENA private sector, however, is not dynamic and is ill prepared to absorb shocks. To boost the performance of the private sector, governments in the region may need to rethink their role in engaging with markets including improving competition, the business environment, and the availability of data. Additionally, private sector businesses in the region can increase performance through better management practices and harnessing untapped talent in the region.en
dc.description.abstractSelon les estimations, la région du Moyen-Orient et de l’Afrique du Nord (MENA) a connu une croissance modeste de 1,9 % en 2024 et devrait croître modérément à 2,6 % en 2025. Cela s’inscrit dans un contexte d’incertitude mondiale accrue, en particulier en matière de politique commerciale. La région est loin d’être à la frontière en matière de niveau de vie, en grande partie en raison de la faible productivité. Ce numéro de la mise à jour économique de la région MENA met en lumière un moteur essentiel de la croissance de la productivité : le secteur privé. Les entreprises créent des emplois, améliorent les moyens de subsistance et servent de bastion de l’innovation dans l’économie. Le secteur privé de la région MENA n’est cependant pas dynamique et est mal préparé à absorber les chocs. Pour stimuler les performances du secteur privé, les gouvernements de la région devront peut-être repenser leur rôle dans l’engagement sur les marchés, notamment en améliorant la concurrence, l’environnement des affaires et la disponibilité des données. De plus, les entreprises du secteur privé de la région peuvent accroître leur performance grâce à de meilleures pratiques de gestion et à l’exploitation des talents inexploités dans la région.fr
