dc.description.abstract | In fiscal year 2012, a total issue of $2.7 billion in guarantees for projects in Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency's (MIGA's) developing member countries and an additional $10.6 million was issued under MIGA administered trust funds. This is another record high for new issuance by the Agency, the second consecutive year of this trend, and was marked by increased regional and sectoral diversification. Fifty-eight percent of projects guaranteed, accounting for 70 percent of the total volume of new coverage, address at least one of MIGA's four strategic priority areas. Fiscal year 2012 also marks the fifth consecutive year of record levels in the Agency's gross portfolio. MIGA issued $2.7 billion in guarantees in support of investments in developing countries. The Agency welcomed two new members, Niger and South Sudan, during the fiscal year. This report highlights MIGA's active support for these objectives in fiscal year 2012. It demonstrates the Agency's ability to deliver on its mandate to promote foreign direct investment into developing countries to support economic growth, reduce poverty, and improve people's lives. As the global investment environment becomes increasingly volatile, and MIGA's clients look for opportunities in frontier markets, there is greater interest in political risk-mitigation mechanisms. MIGA has positioned itself well to respond to these developments especially as a result of its stronger field presence and internal reforms over the last two years. MIGA is committed to promoting projects that promise a strong development impact and are economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. MIGA's projects this past year demonstrate this focus in a wide range of sectors, across all regions. dc.description.abstract | El Organismo Multilateral de Garantía de Inversiones (MIGA), proporciona seguros contra riesgos políticos o garantías contra pérdidas ocasionadas por riesgos no comerciales a fin de promover la inversión extranjera directa (IED) en los países en desarrollo. El Organismo cumple un papel significativo, catalizando inversiones extranjeras directas que respaldan el crecimiento económico, reducen la pobreza y mejoran las condiciones de vida de las personas en los lugares en que ello es más necesario. En el ejercicio de 2012 otorgó garantías para proyectos en países en desarrollo miembros de MIGA por un monto total de US$2700 millones, y US$10,6 millones adicionales por medio de fondos fiduciarios administrados por MIGA. Ello constituye otro año récord en términos de nuevas garantías otorgadas por MIGA y el segundo año consecutivo de esta tendencia. Los resultados se caracterizaron por una mayor diversificación regional y sectorial. dc.description.abstract | Au titre de l’exercice 2012, le volume total des garanties émises pour des projets dans les pays en développement membres de la MIGA s’élève à 2,7 milliards de dollars, et des garanties supplémentaires d’un montant de 10,6 millions de dollars sont émises par les fonds fiduciaires administrés par l’Agence. L’Agence enregistre ainsi un autre record de nouvelles émissions pour la seconde année consécutive, qui a été marquée par une diversification accrue des projets par région et par secteur. Plus de la moitié (58 %) des projets garantis par la MIGA, représentant 70 % du volume total des nouvelles garanties, couvre au moins un des quatre domaines d’action stratégique prioritaire de l’Agence. L’exercice 2012 marque également la cinquième année consécutive d’engagements bruts record pour l’Agence. La MIGA a émis 2,7 milliards de dollars de garanties à l’appui d’investissements dans le monde en développement. Elle a accueilli deux nouveaux membres — le Niger et le Soudan du Sud — durant l’exercice 2012. Le présent rapport met en lumière l’appui actif fourni par la MIGA dans ces domaines au cours de l’exercice 2012.
