dc.description.abstractThis study stresses the need for the countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to put in place a seed system which would meet the seed needs of a wide range of farmers, classified according to their risk tolerance capacity and resource endowments. Obviously, a single strategy cannot meet this objective. The study therefore recommends a mix of strategies, and argues for a "fit" between the country concerned and the seed system. It also examines the relationship between the seed system and other services to farmers such as research, extension, rural infrastructure and marketing. In the light of a detailed analysis of the issues relevant to seed systems, it examines the options available to the policymakers in the countries while setting up seed systems or modifying an existing one, and the implications of each of the options.en
