This briefing note discusses the key elements of the 'gender in energy' topic and provides specific examples on 'how to' integrate gender considerations in energy policy dialogue and the project cycle. This note draws on recent experience within the World Bank and elsewhere in mainstreaming gender in energy projects. It aims to consolidate this knowledge and make it available to energy practitioners addressing gender aspects of energy projects. This note is complemented by a compendium of online resources to provide energy teams with basic tools, such as sample questionnaires, terms of reference, and screening guidance, as well as reference material on gender and energy. These resources have been developed by drawing on the experience of Energy Sector Management assistance Program's (ESMAP's) Africa Renewable Energy and Access (AFREA) gender and energy program, where gender considerations have been integrated into five energy operations in Senegal, Mali, Benin, Tanzania and Kenya. Section 3 of this note and the ESMAP/AFREA online resources are organized around the three key areas the World Bank considers essential parts of a gender-informed project: assessment, actions, and monitoring and evaluation.Dans le secteur de l’énergie, les aspects «genre» de l’accès aux services, aux bienfaits, et de l’exposition aux risques et bénéfices, sont de plus en plus reconnus comme étant des éléments importants à considérer dans l’élaboration des politiques pertinentes et dans la conception des projets. La présente note d’information a pour but de fournir aux équipes chargées de projets énergie au sein de la Banque mondiale un bref panorama des principaux problèmes, des ressources et des outils permettant d’intégrer les considérations relatives au genre dans les activités du secteur énergétique. Cet exposé passe en revue les principaux éléments de la question du « genre et de l’énergie » et fournit des exemples montrant comment intégrer les considérations relatives au genre dans la détermination des politiques et dans le cycle d’un projet. Il est accompagné d’une liste succincte des ressources en ligne destinée à fournir aux équipes travaillant dans le secteur de l’énergie des outils de base, comme des exemples de questionnaires, les Termes de Référence (ToR) et des guides de tri, ainsi que des documents de référence sur les relations entre le genre et l’énergie.
