Second-generation effects on education, time use, and health are larger and more significant than first-generation effects even controlling for mothers' endowments. Improved access to bank accounts and sanitation as well as lower fertility in the parent generation suggest that inheritance reform empowered females in a sustainable way, a notion supported by significantly higher female survival rates.en-USCC BY 3.0 IGOACCESS TO LANDADOLESCENT FEMALESAGE AT MARRIAGEAGE DISTRIBUTIONAGE GROUPSAGEDCHILD CARECHILD LABORCHILD MORTALITYCOMMUNITIESCONTRACEPTIVE CHOICECULTURAL CHANGEDEMOGRAPHIC TRANSITIONDEVELOPMENT POLICYDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTHDIVORCEDOMESTIC VIOLENCEECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTECONOMIC INEQUALITYECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIESEDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENTELDERLYEMPOWERING WOMENEMPOWERMENTEMPOWERMENT OF WOMENEXCESS FERTILITYFAMILY PROPERTYFAMILY RESOURCESFATHERFATHERSFEMALEFEMALE CHILDFEMALE EDUCATIONFEMALE LABOR FORCEFEMALE MORTALITYFUTURE GENERATIONSGENDERGENDER DIFFERENCESGENDER DISCRIMINATIONGENDER EQUALITYGENDER EQUITYGENDER INEQUALITYHEALTH STATUSHIV/AIDSHOUSEHOLD LEVELHOUSEHOLD SURVEYSHOUSEHOLD WORKHOUSEHOLDSHUMAN CAPITALHUSBANDHUSBANDSINHERITANCEINHERITANCE RIGHTSINTERVENTIONSKINSHIPKINSHIP STRUCTURELABOR MARKETLABOR SUPPLYLACK OF INFORMATIONLAND TENURELAWSLEGAL CHANGESLEGISLATIONLEVELS OF FERTILITYLOWER FERTILITYMARRIAGE AGEMARRIAGESMARRIED WOMENMATERIAL WEALTHMIGRATIONMODERNIZATIONMOTHERMOTHERSNATIONAL COUNCILNATIONAL LEVELNUMBER OF CHILDRENNUTRITIONOLD AGEOLD-AGEPARENTSPENSIONSPOLICY DISCUSSIONSPOLICY IMPLICATIONSPOLICY MAKERSPOLICY RESEARCHPOLICY RESEARCH WORKING PAPERPOPULATION AND DEVELOPMENTPREGNANCYPREVENTABLE DISEASEPREVENTABLE DISEASESPRIMARY EDUCATIONPRIMARY SCHOOLPROGRESSPROPERTY RIGHTSREPRODUCTIVE BEHAVIORREPRODUCTIVE CHOICESRESPECTRURAL DEVELOPMENTRURAL POVERTYSANITATIONSCHOOL ATTENDANCESECONDARY EDUCATIONSECONDARY SCHOOLSECONDARY SCHOOLSSEXSEX RATIOSEX RATIOSSEX-SELECTIVE ABORTIONSOCIAL MOBILITYSOCIAL NORMSSPOUSESPOUSESSTATE UNIVERSITYSURVIVAL RATETRADITIONAL SOCIETIESVILLAGESWIDOWSWILLWIVESYOUNG GIRLSYOUNG WOMENInheritance Law Reform, Empowerment, and Human Capital Accumulation : Second-Generation Effects from India10.1596/1813-9450-7086
