The objective is to achieve, as far as possible, negotiated settlements in the resolution of disputes. The primary aim is to minimize the adversarial characteristic of conflict in this sector through proactive communication and open information sharing. These Guidelines are the first step at an operational level in managing conflict consistently and according to the principles of sustainability. They may, in time, need to be expanded and to evolve as legislation develops and changes and as the industry undergoes the transformation dictated by the sustainability journey.en-USCC BY 3.0 IGOADJUDICATIONAIR POLLUTIONALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTIONARBITRATIONAUTHORITYBLOCKADESCANCERCLAIMCOALCOMMUNITIESCONCILIATIONCONFLICTCONFLICT MANAGEMENTCONFLICT RESOLUTIONCONFLICTSCOURTCOURTSCRIMEDEGREE OF CONTROLDISPUTEDISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCESSESDISPUTESECONOMIC CONDITIONSECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTECONOMIC GROWTHECONOMIC IMPACTECONOMICSENVIRONMENTALENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATIONENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTSEXPLOITATIONFAMILIESFINANCIAL RESOURCESFISHINGINDIGENOUS PEOPLESLAND USELEGISLATIONLOCAL AUTHORITIESMEDIATIONMETALSMINESNATURAL RESOURCESNEUTRAL ARBITRATORNEUTRAL PARTYPEACEPOLLUTIONPRODUCTIVITYPUBLIC PARTICIPATIONRECONCILIATIONRESOURCE ALLOCATIONRULESSAVINGSSOCIETYSUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENTVICTIMSVIOLENCEGuidelines and Methodologies for Conflict Management10.1596/19640
