The study finds a strong positive relationship between a nondiscrimination in hiring clause and women's relative to men's employment. The relationship is robust to several controls at the firm and country levels. The results also show sharp heterogeneity in the relationship between the nondiscrimination in hiring clause and women's versus men's employment, with the relationship being much larger in richer countries and in countries with more women in the population as well as among relatively smaller firms.en-USCC BY 3.0 IGOACCESS TO EDUCATIONAFFIRMATIVE ACTIONAIDCHILD CARECHILDBIRTHCITIZENSCITIZENSHIPCORRUPTIONCOURTCOURTSCRIMEDEVELOPING COUNTRIESDEVELOPMENT POLICYDISCRIMINATIONDISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMENDISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENTECONOMIC FREEDOMECONOMIC GROWTHECONOMIC RIGHTSECONOMICS OF GENDEREDUCATED WOMENEDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENTEMPLOYMENT LAWEMPLOYMENT OF WOMENEMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIESEMPOWERMENTEMPOWERMENT OF WOMENEQUAL PAYEQUAL TREATMENTFEMALEFEMALE EDUCATIONFEMALE EMPLOYMENTFEMALE LABORFEMALE LABOR FORCEFEMALE LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATIONFEMALE POPULATIONFEMALE WORKERSFEMALESFEMINISTFEMINIST ECONOMICSFERTILITYFERTILITY RATESFORMS OF DISCRIMINATIONFORMS OF GENDERGENDERGENDER COMPOSITIONGENDER DIFFERENCESGENDER DISCRIMINATIONGENDER DISPARITIESGENDER DISPARITYGENDER EQUALITYGENDER GAPGENDER INEQUALITYGENDER NEUTRALGENDER NEUTRAL LAWSGENDER PARITYGENDER SPECIFICGIRLSHEALTH SERVICESHOMEHUMAN CAPITALHUMAN RESOURCESHUSBANDSIMPLEMENTATION OF LAWSINDUSTRIALIZATIONINEQUALITIESINFORMAL SECTORINHERITANCEINHERITANCE RIGHTSINTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTSINTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS TREATYINVESTMENT IN EDUCATIONJOB OPPORTUNITIESJOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMENJOURNAL OF WOMENLABOR FORCELABOR FORCE PARTICIPATIONLABOR MARKETLABOR MARKETSLABOR SUPPLYLAWSLAWS ON WOMENLEGAL RIGHTSLEGISLATIONLEVEL OF EDUCATIONLOWER FERTILITYMANDATESMATERNITY LEAVEMIGRATIONMOTHERSNONDISCRIMINATIONNUMBER OF WOMENOFFICIAL DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCEOWNERSHIP RIGHTSPARENTAL LEAVEPARLIAMENTARY UNIONPARTICIPATION OF WOMENPATRIARCHYPOLICY DISCUSSIONSPOLICY IMPLICATIONSPOLICY RESEARCHPOLICY RESEARCH WORKING PAPERPOLITICAL RIGHTSPRODUCTIVITYPROGRESSPROPORTION OF WOMENPROPORTION OF WOMEN IN PARLIAMENTPUBLIC EDUCATIONPUBLIC POLICYRACERATIO OF WOMENREPRODUCTIONRICHER COUNTRIESRIGHTS FOR WOMENROLE MODELSSAFETY OF WOMENSEXSEX DISCRIMINATIONSEXUALITYSOCIAL DIMENSIONSSOCIAL RIGHTSSPOUSESPOUSESTERTIARY EDUCATIONTREATYUNMARRIED MENUNMARRIED WOMANUNMARRIED WOMENWAGE GAPWILLWOMANWOMEN EMPLOYEESWOMEN EMPLOYMENTWOMEN IN PARLIAMENTWOMEN IN POWERWOMEN IN SCIENCEWOMEN PARLIAMENTARIANSWOMEN WORKERSWOMEN'S RIGHTSWORKFORCEDoes Mandating Nondiscrimination in Hiring Practices Influence Women's Employment?
