Both parametric and non-parametric estimation methods are used, and robustness to some sample redefinitions is verified. The author find that at least one-third (one-fourth) of overall wealth (imputed consumption) inequality in Turkey is associated with morally irrelevant, pre-determined circumstances. The circumstances that account for the largest share of the variance are rural or urban birth area and father's education. Controlling for rural birth, parents' education, language spoken at home, and number of siblings, a three-way regional breakdown of birthplace is not an important predictor of wealth. An opportunity deprivation profile reveals that more than two thirds of the most deprived group in Turkey consists of women born in the rural areas of the Eastern region, from mothers with no formal education.en-USCC BY 3.0 IGOACCESS TO SERVICESAGRICULTURAL LANDANALYSIS OF VARIANCEASSESSMENT OF INEQUALITYASSETSBENCHMARKBETWEEN-GROUP INEQUALITYCONSUMPTION EXPENDITURESCONSUMPTION INEQUALITYCONSUMPTION LEVELSCUMULATIVE POPULATIONDECOMPOSITION OF INEQUALITYDESCRIPTIVE STATISTICSDISADVANTAGED GROUPSDISCRIMINATIONDISTRIBUTION FUNCTIONSDISTRIBUTION OF OPPORTUNITIESDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTHDISTRIBUTIONS OF WEALTHDOWNWARD BIASDURABLE GOODSEARNINGS INEQUALITYECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTECONOMIC INEQUALITYECONOMIC OUTCOMESECONOMIC THEORYEDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENTEQUAL OPPORTUNITYETHNIC MINORITIESFUNCTIONAL FORMFUTURE RESEARCHGINI COEFFICIENTGROUP MEANSGROWTH PROCESSHETEROSKEDASTICITYHOUSEHOLD BUDGETHOUSEHOLD CONSUMPTIONHOUSEHOLD HEADHOUSEHOLD INCOMEHOUSEHOLD MEMBERSHOUSEHOLD SIZEHOUSEHOLD SURVEYHOUSEHOLD SURVEYSHOUSEHOLD WELFAREINCOMEINCOME DIFFERENCESINCOME INEQUALITYINCOME LEVELSINCOMESINDEXES OF INEQUALITYINEQUALITYINEQUALITY AVERSIONINEQUALITY INDEXINEQUALITY MEASUREMENTINEQUALITY MEASURESINEQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITIESINEQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITYINTERGENERATIONAL MOBILITYINTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITYLABOR MARKETLEVELS OF INEQUALITYLINEAR REGRESSIONLINEAR RELATIONSHIPLIVING STANDARDSMEAN LOG DEVIATIONMEASURE OF INEQUALITYMEASURES OF INEQUALITYMEASURING INEQUALITYNEGATIVE EFFECTOPPORTUNITY SETOPPORTUNITY SETSOVERALL INEQUALITYPER CAPITA CONSUMPTIONPER CAPITA DISTRIBUTIONSPOLICY RESEARCHPOORPOPULATION SHAREPOSITIVE RELATIONSHIPPUBLIC ECONOMICSREGIONAL DIFFERENCESRELATIVE IMPORTANCERELATIVE POSITIONRURALRURAL AREARURAL AREASRURAL WOMENSANITATIONSIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCESSOCIAL CIRCUMSTANCESSOCIAL MOBILITYSOCIAL POLICYTARGETINGTOTAL INEQUALITYUNEQUAL OPPORTUNITIESWAGESWEALTHInequality of Economic Opportunity in TurkeyTurkiye de ekonomik firsat esitsizligi : varlik gostergeleri ve kadinlarin altyapi degiskenleri kullanilarak yapilan bir degerlendirmeWorking PaperWorld BankAn Assessment Using Asset Indicators and Women's Background Variables10.1596/27837
