dc.description.abstract	The Country Opinion Survey in Macedonia assists the World Bank Group (WBG) in gaining a better understanding of how stakeholders in Macedonia perceive the WBG. It provides the WBG with systematic feedback from national and local governments, multilateral/bilateral agencies, media, academia, the private sector, and civil society in Macedonia on 1) their views regarding the general environment in Macedonia; 2) their overall attitudes toward the WBG in Macedonia; 3) overall impressions of the WBG's effectiveness and results, knowledge work and activities, and communication and information sharing in Macedonia; and 4) their perceptions of the WBG's future role in Macedonia.	en

Republic of Argentina, Province of Buenos Aires : Improved Public Financial Management for Better Service Delivery in Health and Education Sectors

The objective of this report is to assess public financial management (PFM) systems existing at the province level with a particular focus on the health and education sectors, and to understand linkages existing between the institutional settings in these two sectors and PFM processes. By doing so, the report shows the direct impact of poor PFM on service delivery in health and education. Since these two sectors have significant effects on the bottom 40 percent of the population, this will help Argentina’s subnational governments allocate and use public resources more efficiently, and with greater accountability for their expenditure.

When Institutions Work : Nigeria's Ebola Response

Nigeria is a country of immense natural resources and potential, but the government’s capacity to deliver public goods has generally been weak. It was against this backdrop that Nigeria faced the arrival within its borders of the deadly Ebola virus disease in July 2014. Despite assurances that the Nigerian government was prepared to respond to an outbreak of Ebola, the country was caught unaware and forced to mount an emergency response. Yet despite these serious concerns, the spread of Ebola was successfully contained in Nigeria. This case study seeks to understand why Nigeria’s Ebola response was so successful despite the challenging context. Disaster Risk Management in the Transport Sector : A Review of Concepts and International Case Studies

Natural hazards regularly impact the performance of transport systems and their ability to provide safe, reliable, efficient, and accessible means of transport for all citizens, especially in emergency situations. Despite the frequency of natural hazards, and the threat of more extreme and variable weather as a result of climate change, there is still no systematic approach to addressing natural disasters in the transport sector and there is little knowledge that has been disseminated on this topic. This report offers a framework for understanding the principles of resilience in transport. It provides practical examples, gathered from an extensive secondary literature review and interviews, of the measures that transport professional can implement in transport projects.
