dc.description.abstract	This short country report, a result of larger Information for Development Program (infodev)-supported survey of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education in Africa, provides a general overview of current activities and issues related to ICT use in education in the country. Zimbabwe has been beleaguered by economic, social, and political turmoil in recent years which has had a debilitating effect on its already-declining education system. The country nevertheless has a dedicated national ICT policy that was adopted in 2005 and that makes significant references to the promotion of ICTs in education including pedagogical use in educational institutions. Zimbabwe also has a vibrant civil society sector that promotes ICT for development and education, of which organizations such as world links Zimbabwe has played a pioneering role since the late 1990s.	en

Estimation of Water Demand in Developing Countries

A better understanding of household water use in developing countries is necessary to manage and expand water systems more effectively. Several meta-analyzes have examined the determinants of household water demand in industrialized countries, but little effort has been made to synthesize the growing body of literature evaluating household water demand in developing countries. This article reviews what is known and what is missing from that literature thus far. Analysis of demand for water in developing countries is complicated by abundant evidence that, contrary to what is observed in most developed countries, households in developing countries have access to, and may use more than one of several types of, water sources. The authors describe the different modeling strategies that researchers have adopted to estimate water demand in developing countries and discuss issues related to data collection. Rapid Consumption Method and Poverty and Inequality Estimation in South Sudan Revisited

This paper presents updated poverty and inequality estimates from the South Sudan High Frequency Survey (HFS) consumption data. The HFS uses the Rapid Consumption Methodology (RCM), which skips part of consumption module, to save interview time due to the volatile security situation. The previous methodology adopted the Multivariate Normal Regression (MI-MVN) method to impute the skipped consumption data, but it produced improper consumption data like negative total consumption values for some households. Instead, the new methodology uses the Two-Part multiple imputation (MI) method, and improved the reliability of imputed consumption data, although there is still room for improvement. Romania faces high levels of amenable mortality reflecting, in part, the relatively low utilization rates of high-quality primary health care (PHC), particularly for non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention and treatment. Provider payment mechanisms do not reward the high-quality care provision and may incentivize bypassing of PHC for hospitals, exacerbating challenges presented by physical, financial, and social barriers to accessing essential care. This paper assesses provider payment mechanisms at the PHC level, by examining their design features and implementation arrangements, and exploring their implications for PHC performance in terms of access and quality of care.
