authorProfile.biographyRafael Rofman is the World Bank Program Leader for Education, Health, Social Protection and Labor, and Poverty, covering Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. He has worked on social protection and pension policy in many Latin America countries, as well as in other regions of the world. He graduated as an Economist from the University of Buenos Aires and went on to receive a MA on Social Demography from the University of Lujan and a PhD in Demography from the University of California at Berkeley. Before joining the World Bank, he held positions in Argentina, both in academic institutions and government agencies, including Head of the Research Unit at the Supervision of Pension Funds and advisor to the Minister of Economy and to the Secretary of Social Security. He is author of many studies on adult mortality, social security and pension reform, including a recently published book on expanding old age income protection coverage in fourteen Latin American countries. He has been university professor at the University of Buenos Aires, Torcuato Di Tella University, and the University of Lujan, among others.
