Insights from the Labor Module on Work and Wages in Cox's Bazar
(World Bank, Washington, DC, 2019-11-19) World Bank
The labor market module was administered as part of the adult questionnaire of the Cox’s Bazar Panel Survey to 2 randomly selected adults from every household in the sample, amounting to a total of 9,045 individuals. The module generates representative statistics for the adult (15+) population of hosts and displaced Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar; and it can be further disaggregated into hosting areas with low and high exposure to the Rohingya influx, and by gender. Besides collecting information on the participation of adults in the labor force and their employment status, the module collects details on wage and non-wage employment, wage rates, sectors of employment and barriers faced in obtaining work.

    Enhancing Local Economic Impact
(World Bank, Washington, DC, 2018-03-01) UNCTAD; World Bank
This note provides guidance on how to ensure that an agricultural investment generates positive impacts on the local economy by encouraging and supporting opportunities arising for individuals, farmers, businesses, and institutions. Investments can have a transformative impact on the communities where they are located. Much of this impact can be long term, and go beyond the immediate activities of the investors, through economic linkages and spillover effects. Positive impacts on the local economy are not automatic: the policies and practices of the investor and the government influence outcomes. Careful management and choice of agricultural investments, and provision of complementary initiatives by investors and by governments, can maximize the benefits arising from economic linkages and spillovers while minimizing the risks.

(World Bank, Entebbe, 2015-05-01) World Bank Group
A remarkable program of cooperation in the Nile basin is bringing change to millions of people living in poverty. By promoting trust and cooperation between the 10 Nile countries, the Nile basin initiative (NBI) has enabled these countries to advance a shared vision for development of the region based on sustainable management and equitable use of the Nile water resources. Countries have come together to plan and implement development projects that are proving to be transformative in terms of food, water, and energy security - as well as improving the resilience of some of the poorest in society. Once implemented, these projects promise to benefit nearly 30 million people.

Access to Credit among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises
(International Finance Corporation, Washington, DC, 2013-08-01) Alper, Oya; Hommes, Martin
In 2010, IFC conducted a study to estimate the number of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the world, and to determine the degree of access to credit and use of deposit accounts for formal and informal MSMEs. The study used primarily data from the World Bank Enterprise Surveys (ES). In 2011 the data was revisited as new enterprise surveys became available. The resulting database, IFC Enterprise Finance Gap Database, covers 177 countries. This fact sheet summarizes and highlights the key data points available for the formal micro, formal small and medium enterprises (SME), and the aggregated formal and informal MSME sectors.
